Abstract
This study examines the effectiveness of interactive learning media based on Augmented Reality (AR) in improving students’ conceptual understanding in Grade VII biology learning at a private junior high school in East Jakarta, Indonesia. Biology learning at the junior high school level often involves abstract concepts that are difficult for students to visualize using conventional instructional media, resulting in superficial understanding. To address this issue, AR-based learning media were integrated into biology instruction to provide three-dimensional visualization and interactive learning experiences. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The participants consisted of 64 seventh-grade students, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received instruction using AR-based interactive media on biology topics aligned with the Grade VII curriculum, while the control group was taught using traditional textbooks and static visual media. Data were collected through a concept understanding test and analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent-sample t-tests. The results showed that students in the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest scores in conceptual understanding compared to those in the control group (p < 0.05). Students demonstrated better ability to explain biological concepts, interpret visual representations, and relate abstract concepts to real-world phenomena. These findings indicate that AR-based interactive learning media can effectively support meaningful learning in junior high school biology and enhance students’ conceptual understanding.References
